Thermae Spa

See details: 250,000 gallons of water flow through the springs each day. There are three main springs – the King’s Spring, the Hetling Spring and the Cross Bath Spring. The hot springs have played a central role in every stage of the city’s development, creating a unique social history and culture where the waters are central to healing and recreation.

Not long ago the Thermae Spa was refurbished, with the New Royal Bath created as a fusion of glass, stone, light and water. This creates a special setting in which to enjoy a Thermae Welcome (a 2-hour spa session and use of towel, robe & slippers). You can relax in two spectacular baths, fed by the naturally warm, mineral-rich waters and refresh yourself in a series of aromatic steam rooms. By day and by night, enjoy spectacular views over the City of Bath and surrounding hills from the rooftop open hot springs pool. The naturally warm, mineral-rich waters are enhanced by air seats and bubbling jets. A large indoors thermal bath on the ground floor is distinguished by flowing curves and grand columns, the thermal waters are complemented by an invigorating massage jet, whirlpool and lazy river. A new Wellness Suite will be opened in March, an innovative new facility of thermal experiences including steam rooms and an infrared sauna, as well as an ice chamber and a relaxing Astral Room.

Please note children under 16 are not permitted in the New Royal Bath, but they are welcome in the Cross Bath, an intimate open-air thermal bath with its own changing facilities. The Cross Bath is located in a separate building, on the site where the Celts revered their goddess Sul, in whose honour the Romans named their spa town, Aquae Sulis. The Cross Spring is now recognised as an official sacred site. As you relax in the oval Cross Bath, you can watch the natural thermal waters cascade from a specially commissioned poolside fountain.

The Cross Bath is a unique venue which can be enjoyed by individuals or exclusively for small parties of up to 12 people. Our catering team can provide light bites, soft drinks and Champagne (subject to availability).
