At the Grosvenor Apartments, you can experience first-hand more than two hundred years of history. Originally built by Romans 2000 years ago, Bath was re-invented in the 18th century when it became the Summer Season place. Every London noble family had to have their residence in the city that was quickly becoming a fashionable health resort with natural hot springs – famous place for healing. Beautiful crescents of townhouses rose around Bath, that included the Grosvenor Place designed by John Eveleigh, an English surveyor and architect. A terrace of 42 houses was built in 1790 from the locally mined honey-coloured limestone for which Bath is famed. The large central house with a double curve and giant Ionic half columns became the Grosvenor Hotel.
The Grosvenor Place is entered to the register of historic properties in England as Grade I, a building of an exceptional architectural or historic interest. Just 2.5% of all listed buildings in Britain are Grade I. In the 20th century many of the houses were redecorated and restyled and converted into apartments, with the modern amenities installed to create self-contained accommodations.
I fell in love with the Grosvenor Place at the first sight. Having settled in Bath after traveling the world for almost 15 years, I came for a viewing and gasped – just as many of our guests do when they first enter our serviced flats. The space beckoned with its simple elegance, spaciousness, stunning views and palatial feeling, so very different from every other property the agent had shown me. I offered on it the same day and moved to the Grosvenor Place within two months. This was in 2015.
Formerly a lawyer, I was looking for an activity that would match my love of beauty and my passion for creativity. Property was always something that came easily to me; perhaps, because according to Feng Shui I am a ‘tree’. Memories of staying in exquisite hotels around the world and a desire to share the treasures of Georgian Bath with people visiting us from other places inspired me and my son to create a boutique accommodation and let our guests enjoy their home away. The Grosvenor Place seemed like a perfect spot for a self-catering apartment for this assignment.
The Grosvenor Apartments opened their doors in 2016. Our holiday let has been hosting families of several generations, group of friends, couples and groups coming for a reunion from all over the world.
We care for our guests to get the best experience of their short stay in Bath and are very happy to see them returning to our holiday rental.
